For just the second time in six games since 2007, the Dallas Cowboys defeated the New England Patriots — and they did so in dominating fashion, handing Bill Belichick a 38-3 thrashing. Earlier Sunday, the reigning three-time AFC East champion Bills (2-1) dominated the Miami Dolphins 48-20 behind a huge day from Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs and the offense. Check out all the highlights and in-game action from both of these games. Here's the complete NFL Week 4 scoreboard.
The AFC East still belongs to the Buffalo Bills. Josh Allen threw four touchdown passes and ran for another, Stefon Diggs had three touchdown catches, and the Bills drowned the Dolphins 48-20 on Sunday. Both teams scored on their first two possessions of the game, but Buffalo outscored Miami 27-6 the rest of the game.
Running back James Cook added a touchdown run for the Bills, who are 3-1 and travel to London next week to meet the Jaguars.
NFL STATS CENTRAL: The latest NFL scores, schedules, odds, stats and more.
Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was 25 of 35 for 282 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception. But star receivers Tyreek Hill (three catches, 58 yards) and Jaylen Waddle (four catches, 46 yards) were kept in check. Miami was led by rookie running back De’Von Achane, who had 101 yards and two rushing touchdowns in the first half. Since Allen joined the Bills in 2018, the Dolphins have lost 10 of their last 12 games against Buffalo, including their playoff loss earlier this January. — Safid Deen
The Cowboys dismantled the Patriots 38-3 thanks to a handful of outstanding defensive plays — a strip-sack by Dante Fowler, a subsequent scoop-and-score by Leighton Vander Esch and two picks by DeRon Bland, including a 54-yard pick six — and a red zone breakthrough. Here are a few of the top plays so far.
Now is not the time to declare the Buffalo Bills as destined to finally get over the hump this season and fulfill their promise for a Super Bowl mission. As much a 48-20 beatdown of the Miami Dolphins on Sunday might have provided a glimpse of that – Josh Allen was amazing, Stefon Diggs was incredible, Sean McDermott’s defense was spectacular – it’s way too early to predict what will happen in January and February. Yet it’s not too early to declare this: The Bills are still very much the kings of the AFC East. That was the takeaway statement attached to the complete and dominating victory that puts Buffalo (3-1) back at the top of the division the franchise has won for three years running.

Deuce Vaughn, all 5 feet, 5 inches of him, realizes that at least one thing hasn’t changed as he tries to transition to the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys. It’s the doubts about his size. Vaughn, a sixth-round rookie from Kansas State, is challenged to survive in a forest where just about everybody towers above him.
“I’ve been doubted my whole life,” Vaughn, 21, told USA TODAY Sports following a recent training camp practice. “Coming out of high school, I had maybe three offers. Going to Kansas State, I was the ninth running back out of nine running backs on that depth chart. I was able to fight, claw and scratch, and wound up starting the second game of my career and play three years.”

The Patriots' depth chart under center is: Mac Jones, Bailey Zappe and Will Grier, who is inactive but is the emergency third QB.

The field goal came after Jahlani Tavai sacked Dak Prescott on third-and-1 from the 6-yard line.
On the opening drive of the second half, the Patriots and quarterback Mac Jones went for it on fourth-and-2 from the Dallas 40-yard line, but the vibes continued to be bad for New England as cornerback DeRon Bland snared his second pick of the game and returned it 10 yards to the Dallas 48-yard line.
Here's the USA TODAY Sports box score for this Week 4 matchup.
In the first quarter, Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez went into the injury tent on the sideline, holding his right arm. He went down after tackling Tony Pollard and will not return, the team citing a shoulder injury.

The Dallas defense has scored more points than its offense. With just over a minute left before halftime, New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones scuttled around the backfield looking for a target. He found Kendrick Bourne to his left and threw across his body toward the wide receiver. Cowboys corner back DaRon Bland read the throw, ran upfield and jumped in front of Bourne to snag the ball. He had an open field and ran 54 yards for a touchdown.
This is Dallas’ second defensive score of the day after Leighton Vander Esch had a fumble recovery for a score, which was followed by a two-point conversion. The Cowboys’ other six points have come from field goals as they lead the Patriots 28-3 at the half. — Victoria Hernandez

Brandon Aubrey nailed his second field goal of the game, this one a 23-yarder, to give the Cowboys a 21-3 lead over New England with 4 minutes left in the first half. But Dallas' red zone struggles continue, another long drive ending shy of the end zone. The Cowboys are 0-2 in the red zone today and 3 for their last 13.
After Dante Fowler's strip-sack and Leighton Vander Esch's scoop-and-score, the Cowboys pulled off a fake PAT to convert a two-point attempt. Punter and holder Bryan Anger found defensive lineman Chauncey Golston for the score to give the Cowboys an 18-3 lead in the second quarter.

One series after the Cowboys failed to find the end zone from inside the 10-yard line, the Patriots followed suit. It was an eight-play, 64-yard drive for the Patriots.

Tagovailoa had a first-down run and a 17-yard completion to Jaylen Waddle during the drive. — Safid Deen
Tua Tagovailoa was helpless, sitting at home as he watched his Miami Dolphins fall in just their third playoff game in 21 years on the road against the Buffalo Bills in January. But his path to becoming an NFL MVP favorite during Miami’s torrid start this season was already underway.
So, can he lead the Dolphins to a Week 4 comeback against the Bills?

Dolphins offensive tackle Terron Armstead suffered a knee injury in the first half and will not to return to the game against the Bills.
One week after scoring 35 at the half, the Dolphins have given up nearly as many points at halftime against Buffalo. Josh Allen has three touchdown passes, including two to Stefon Diggs, and the Bills have a 31-14 lead over the Dolphins at halftime. Buffalo entered the half, scoring 17 unanswered points on Miami. Tyler Bass kicked a 53-yard field goal with 1:39 left in the half to pad the score, capitalizing after Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert fumbled.
The Dolphins traded blows with Buffalo, with rookie running back De’Von Achane scoring two rushing touchdowns, but it was Miami’s offense that slowed down first in this game. Dolphins starting left tackle Terron Armstead left the game with a knee injury, and is questionable to return. Miami is already without starting center Connor Williams. — Safid Deen

The Dolphins drafted Achane, who is listed at 5-foot-9 and 188 pounds, in the third round of the 2023 draft (84th pick) out of Texas A&M. The Missouri City, Texas, native rushed for 2,376 yards and 21 touchdowns in three seasons (30 games) for the Aggies.
Achane also ran track for Texas A&M, competing in the 2021 and 2022 indoor and outdoor seasons. In 2022, he competed in the 60m, 200m, 100m and the 4x100. He placed seventh in the 100m at the SEC Outdoor Championships, finishing in 10.25 seconds. He received All-SEC honors in 2021 for being a part of the 4x100m team that placed third.
Dolphins rookie running back De’Von Achane already has two touchdowns against the Bills. How do you pronounce his name? The team put together this handy pronunciation guide, which includes each player saying his name for fans to listen to. Achane pronounces his like this: deVON aye-chan.
We’ve got the first punt in the Dolphins-Bills game. After five possessions, the Dolphins are first to punt in this game. The Dolphins should consider themselves lucky it’s a punt: Braxton Berrios recovered a fumble by Raheem Mostert on third and 18 that could’ve given Buffalo prime position in their own red zone. Instead, the Bills will start on their side of the field for their fourth possession, already scoring on their first three. — Safid Deen
Bills receiver Stefon Diggs channeled his inner Stone Cold Steve Austin after scoring his touchdown in the second quarter against the Dolphins. Diggs grabbed two beers from fans in the stands, and celebrated just like the WWE Hall of Fame wrestler would after giving the Bills a 21-14 lead. The touchdown celebration gets a 10/10. — Safid Deen
Stefon Diggs found a weak spot in the Dolphins defense, and Josh Allen made them pay. Allen’s 11-yard touchdown pass to Diggs gives Buffalo the lead again, 21-14, with 10:02 left in the second quarter. It’s been a heavyweight fight so far, with both teams scoring on every offensive possession in this game. — Safid Deen
The Dolphins drafted Achane in the third round of the 2023 draft (84th pick) out of Texas A&M. The Missouri City, Texas, native rushed for 2,376 yards and 21 touchdowns in three seasons (30 games) for the Aggies.

The Dolphins QB went 6 for 6 for 87 yards in the first quarter.
The Bills QB went 7 for 7 in the first quarter for 80 yards and a touchdown.
We’ve seen the Eagles’ take over the NFL with their "tush push" touchdowns. How about Buffalo’s technique on their latest touchdown with quarterback Josh Allen just pushing his teammate from behind into the end zone? Bills running back James Cook scored the 1-yard touchdown run with Allen’s help, and Buffalo leads 14-7 with 1:14 left in the first quarter.
Cook appeared down inside the 1-yard line on a touchdown play, but the play stood after official review. Two drives by Buffalo, and both have ended in Bills touchdowns. — Safid Deen
The Dolphins responded to Buffalo’s game-opening touchdown with one of their own. Dolphins rookie running back De'Von Achane scored on a 3-yard run to tie the game 7-7 with 6:30 left in the first quarter. Two series, and touchdowns by both teams to start this AFC East showdown. The Dolphins’ drive was aided significantly by a catch from Jaylen Waddle, who came up with a tipped pass by Tua Tagovailoa after it was nearly intercepted, just before it hit the deck. — Safid Deen
What’s one way to slow the NFL’s highest scoring offense? Scoring first. Josh Allen led the Bills offense down the field, and found receiver Gabe Davis for an 18-yard touchdown on Buffalo’s first drive of the game against Miami. Allen was 4 of 4 for 45 yards, with each pass going to a different receiver. Allen’s touchdown pass was set up by an unnecessary roughness penalty by Dolphins defensive back Kader Kohou, who pushed Bills receiver Stefon Diggs out of bounds after a 17-yard completion. — Safid Deen
Jim Nantz (play-by-play) and Tony Romo (analyst) are on the call for the CBS broadcast.
The Dolphins opened the first drive with cornerback Kader Kohou on Stefon Diggs.
Entering Sunday, Diggs has faced the Dolphins seven times in his career. In those contests, he has 40 catches on 63 targets for 512 yards (12.8 yards per catch) and four touchdowns.
The Dolphins won the coin toss and deferred to the second half, so the Bills will open with the ball.
Ever hear a home team booed by their home fans after putting up 70 points in a rout? Well, it happened last week during the Miami Dolphins’ 70-20 blowout of the Denver Broncos on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium, with coach Mike McDaniel pulling back rather than making a final push for the NFL record for points in a single game. The Dolphins could have trotted kicker Jason Sanders out to attempt a 45-yard field goal, which would have broken the mark that has stood for 57 years. Instead, McDaniel instructed backup quarterback Mike White to take a knee because he didn’t want to “chase” after points or an NFL record. And the boos started – and ended shortly after – as the clock ran out. — Safid Deen

S Jordan Yoer, CB Kaiir Elam, G Germain Ifedi, T Alec Anderson and DT Poona Ford are inactive for the Bills.

Including last season’s wild card game in January, the Bills are 4-1 in their last five matchups against the Dolphins. Buffalo won that wild card matchup 34-31. They split last season’s two regular-season contests, the Dolphins winning the first outing 21-19 and the Bills winning the second one 32-19.
Buffalo’s defense might be just the unit to slow Miami’s roll. Sure, after collecting nine sacks and four takeaways against Washington and poor Sam Howell, the Bills will get a step up in competition as Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa enters as the league’s top-rated passer and likely MVP front-runner.
The Bills rank second in the league for scoring defense (11.7 points per game) while leading the NFL in interceptions (7), takeaways (9), lowest passer rating allowed (54) and pressure rate (50.6%). They are tied for second in the NFL for sacks (12) and third for passing yards allowed.
Plus, the Bills have defeated Miami seven consecutive times in Buffalo.
On paper, Buffalo stands a chance better than most.
Yet this Miami offense, averaging 43.3 points per game, is more lethal than the unit that went to Buffalo last season and lost a pair of games by three-point margins in Week 15 and in the wild-card round of the playoffs, the latter coming with Tagovailoa sidelined while in the league's concussion protocol.

In five career games against the Bills, Tyreek Hill has 28 catches on 44 targets for 226 yards, one touchdown and 8.07 yards per catch.
Damar Hamlin is listed as active for the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, set to make his season debut.
Here is the Dolphins’ Week 4 injury report.
As the NFL puts a bow on the first month of the 2023 season, only three teams exit September with an unblemished record: the Philadelphia Eagles, Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers.
All three have soared above the competition en route to a 3-0 mark, though their runs have not been without the occasional challenge. With each outfit boasting a high-powered offense (all three rank in the top seven in scoring) and promising quarterback, this group looks to have staying power.
But which one will be the last to fall? We asked USA TODAY Sports' NFL writers and columnists: Who will be the last undefeated team remaining this season?
The NFL is back, and with that, so are the announcing teams that will be the soundtrack of the games.
